To ensure a smooth visit and the safest experience possible, please carefully review the following instructions:
- Fasting: Please have your pet FAST (no food) starting at 10:00 PM the night before the procedure. Access to water is perfectly fine unless otherwise instructed.
- Morning Medications: If your pet is on routine medications, please give them as directed unless our team has advised otherwise. If you are unsure, please contact us prior to the appointment.
- Pre-Visit Medications: In some cases, we may recommend medications such as gabapentin and/or trazodone prior to arrival. If we feel these medications would benefit your pet, our team will contact you with specific dosing instructions. These medications help reduce fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS) in the hospital setting and can allow for smoother handling, safer sedation, and a more comfortable recovery.
- Sedation & Consent: Your pet will be receiving sedation for their procedure (such as laceration repair, radiographs, or a comprehensive examination). Sedation allows us to:
- Minimize stress and discomfort
- Obtain accurate diagnostics
- Perform procedures safely and efficiently
Upon arrival, you will be asked to sign a sedation consent form. Please keep your phone available throughout the day, as we may need to reach you if additional treatment recommendations arise.
Estimated Discharge Time: We will contact you once your pet is in recovery and provide an approximate discharge time.
